10. Course Policy for Autumn 2025 Course Series

The policy below applies to all courses hosted on the LMS (Learning Management System) of Mathelots Pvt Ltd for the period from October 2025 to December 2025.

Overview: Our Autumn 2025 series consists of four innovative maths lecture series. The lecture schedule is as follows:

How To Think: Part I runs on Mondays and Thursdays at 4 pm IST.

How To Think: Part II runs on Mondays and Thursdays at 5 pm IST.

Calculus: Part I runs on Mondays and Thursdays at 6 pm IST.

Calculus: Part II runs on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 pm IST.

Each of the courses is separate from the others, and each of them individually has registration fees of INR 18,000/- only (inclusive of GST).

Early bird registration, till 11:59:59 pm on September 30, 2025 has a 15% flat discount on the above. The registration fee for early bird entry is INR 15,300/- only (inclusive of GST).

The courses will run for 8 weeks with 2 classes per week at fixed timings specified above.

Each class will consist of 55 minutes broken down into three segments:

  • A 25 minute introductory, theoretical lecture on the topic of the day, with examples.

  • A 10 minute interlude to let the students think about 1-3 problems on a quiz.

  • A 20 minute follow-up lecture to explain the examples in the quiz.

This is a reinforcement-based learning system where the quiz problems will be within the grasp of students who have understood the lecture till that point, but require a deeper understanding, and the follow-up discussion will add clarity to this understanding of the material.

Since this is a high-intensity lecture format, it is best suited for live-streamed lectures rather than recordings. No lecture recordings will be provided, so students are encouraged to attend live, as there will be no way to make up for missed classes

Recording of the lectures through any means is strictly prohibited and will result in a permanent ban from all our programs.

Lecture notes will be updated on the LMS before each class. This is to ensure that students get in the habit of self-study and reading lecture material to gain the maximum benefit from the class.

The purpose of the How To Think Part I & Part II courses is to provide an innovative maths education curriculum that teaches critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills, with the curriculum as outlined in their respective syllabus on our website.

The purpose of the Calculus Part I & Part II courses is to provide a rigorous and intuitive understanding of the subject of Calculus and to build problem-solving ability for tackling challenging calculus problems at an advanced level beyond typical school exams, with the curriculum as outlined in their respective syllabus on our website.

At the start of each two weeks, an Example Sheet will be provided — this consists of practice problems for the entire two weeks, in advance of the actual theoretical classes. At the end of the two-week mark, a special Revision Class will be held on Fridays to solve the marked questions from these Example Sheets.

In summary, the schedule for Revision Classes for Autumn 2025 is as below. All times in IST (India Standard Time, i.e., GMT +5:30).

  • How To Think Part I: At 4 pm on Nov 7, Nov 21, Dec 5, and Dec 19.

  • How To Think Part II: At 5 pm on Nov 7, Nov 21, Dec 5, and Dec 19.

  • Calculus Part I: At 4 pm on Oct 31, Nov 14, Nov 28, and Dec 12.

  • Calculus Part II: At 5 pm on Oct 31, Nov 14, Nov 28, and Dec 12.

Solutions notes to the Example Sheets will be posted on the LMS after the Revision Classes for each two-week period.

The Revision Classes will discuss only the marked questions that have been carefully chosen for their pedagogical value. No opportunity for doubt-clearing, auxiliary questions, or individualised doubts and clarifications exists at this time and such is not promised as part of the course in this iteration.

Additionally, students may be given take-home exams to test their understanding of the course materials at the end of the term, on December 22, 2025. If such a take-home exam is provided, the solution notes will be made available on December 31, 2025.

The access to the course will end on 11:59:59 pm, January 4, 2025.

The program is designed for highly curious, diligent students who wish to understand, appreciate and excel at mathematics — as such the students will attend live-lectures (each lasting 50 minutes + an additional 10 minutes upto discretion).

The above is the system used at Part III of the Mathematical Tripos at the University of Cambridge for postgraduate students — we believe this system is extremely efficient and meritorious. The 16-lecture system spread across a two-month term is common in many mathematics courses at both Cambridge and Oxford. We emulate their successful methods in our teaching philosophy with this course, where students attending live lectures at fixed schedules benefit the most.

Prerequisites and Requirements: A willingness to learn, work hard, self-study, and dedication are all essential to benefit from the program.

  • The How To Think Part I course assumes very minimal knowledge of basic algebra, arithmetic operations and basic manipulation skills. It focuses entirely on logic and puzzle solving.

  • The How To Think Part II course assumes a decent ability to manipulate algebraic expressions, and willingness to learn any requisite formulas. It focuses on logic, combinatorics, probability, problem-solving, and how to effectively make decisions and model them mathematically.

  • The Calculus Part I series assumes a significant level of comfort manipulating basic algebraic expressions and trigonometric identities, and a feeling for basic geometrical calculations.

  • The Calculus Part II series assumes a significant familiarity with Calculus Part I content, in particular, with differentiation and derivatives and their properties.

Since the vast majority of the program relies on self-study and consistently following up with the lectures on time, the biggest prerequisite of all is self-discipline. We expect that the students who gain the most from the program are the ones who spend 5-10 hours of dedicated study every week outside the two lectures to absorb the material and think about the Example Sheets.

If you are not prepared to devote sufficient time and effort, the course may not have as much benefit, so we would recommend purchasing only if you are dedicated.

Students are also advised to maintain a strong internet connection while accessing the live lectures and to avoid any disruptions. Since the lectures are not directly interactive and are done in a broadcast form, it is important for students not to miss the lectures or any part thereof.

Recommended Resources: Here are a few resources that we recommend students to read and work on, whether before, during or after the course, specifically, for the “How To Think” series.

This is neither necessary nor sufficient for participation in our program, but it may provide a good foundation in basic logical reasoning and advanced problem-solving skills, both within and beyond the program.

  • The Book of Zero Knowledge by Anant Mudgal

  • Mathematical Circles: A Russian Experience by Dmitri Fomin, Sergei Genkin and Ilia Itenberg

  • The Art and Craft of Problem Solving by Paul Zeitz

  • How to Solve It! by George Polya

  • Entertaining Mathematical Puzzles by Martin Gardner

Non-Disparagement Policy: The student, their parents/legal guardians or any affiliate will not disparage Mathelots, its directors and employees, or any of its affiliates, under any circumstances on any platform in any form and any such disparaging conduct will be followed by strict legal repercussions. This policy will hold before, during and after the completion of any course.

Refund Policy: A fixed amount of INR 6,000 will be deducted from all payments. The remaining amount will be refunded on a pro-rata basis, i.e., split in the ratio of the number of leftover classes to the total number of classes [excluding status of revision classes, example sheets, exams], and this amount may be refunded upon request at any time. Refund processing will take anywhere from 3-5 working days and may take up to 10 working days in exceptional circumstances. All such requests must be sent over email with a clear specification.

For example, if a student purchases the course after the Early Bird discount has expired, at the full price of 18,000 INR and attends four classes, and requests a refund before the fifth class, then the amount refunded will be calculated as follows.

Amount after deduction of fixed cost = INR 18,000 – INR 6,000 = INR 12,000.

Proportion of leftover classes = (Number of leftover classes)/(Total number of classes) = (16-4)/16=12/16 = 0.75

Amount refunded = (INR 12,000)*0.75 = INR 9,000

So, an amount of INR 9,000 will be refunded in this example. No further negotiations will be entertained on the refunds under any circumstances.

No Tolerance Policy: No academic misconduct, behavioural misconduct, inappropriate or impolite language or expressions towards any employee, director, client or any affiliate of Mathelots Pvt Ltd either verbally, in writing or in any form whatsoever, by any student or student’s parent/legal guardian or affiliate will be tolerated, under any circumstances.

Any such behaviour will be penalised by immediate removal of the student from all their purchased programs, a permanent ban from all of our programs for the student, and no eligible fees refund will be offered in such cases.

Intellectual Property Policy: All course materials, lecture streams, video recordings, and all associated data, whether digital or physical, are the sole property of Mathelots Pvt Ltd. Any unauthorised access, use or reproduction of any of our course content and materials is punishable by a time-out and may result in a permanent ban from all our programs, and will be followed by strict legal repercussions. Many of our automated systems will detect any misuse and enforce time-outs.

Disclaimer: The above programs are NOT meant as coaching or success programs for any entrance examinations or mathematical olympiads. We do NOT claim results in exams or offer any promises of success at these exams.
